How to earn Mortal Shell glimpses

How to earn Mortal Shell glimpses

Getting Tar is easy but knowing how to earn Mortal Shell glimpses is a different story. These are essentially skill points but the game isn’t totally clear on how to get them. So how do you get glimpses in Mortal Shell?

Glimpses are mainly used to upgrade your character, but they can also be used as a currency to bring back the fog (which you’ll need for opening chests) or as a “punishment” for using powerful items. Upgrades are the most important use and why you’ll need so many. Unlike Tar which spread throughout each of your characters, glimpses are locked to classes. In essence, getting glimpses as Tiel means you can only uses those glimpses as Tiel. You also don’t lose glimpses when you die before getting back to claim your Tar.

It’s a good thing that there are multiple ways to get glimpses. Consumables are the first way. You can get these glimpses consumables by searching around the world. There are multiple different types of glimpse consumables that can yield one single glimpse, two, or 15. You won’t know exactly until you pop one open. The small ones are generally found throughout the world (sometimes in well-hidden places) while the big ones are either hidden or found after defeating bosses. The more you use, the more familiar you become with them and the more glimpses you’ll get from consuming them.

Again, remember not to pop all of the glimpses on one class since your classes don’t share glimpses. It would be a good idea to only use them as you need them and spread them out over each of the four shells.

The second way is to explore new areas and kill enemies there. The game seems to give more glimpses when you first get to an area and less the more enemies you kill there, which appears to be a mechanism to keep players from grinding. You can still get some glimpses in areas that you spend a long time in (like Fallgrim) but it is far more rare. Tougher enemies also seem to be better at dropping glimpses. If they do drop glimpses, they’ll be a little sparkly item on their corpse.

Grisha enemies (the big ugly trolls) will drop glimpses if you fight them, but there are only a few in the game. For example, one is opposite the door to the Sester in Fallgrim Tower while two are in Fallgrim during the foggy bits of the game where you are carrying a Gland.

There are also some abilities that help you get more glimpses. Solomon has an ability, Accretion of Foresight, that yields a glimpse for every new lore item you read in the world. Harros has two abilities that have a chance to earn extra glimpses. His Recollection of Knowledge power has a chance to yield a glimpse from enemies killed from the blast and Accretion of Yearning has a chance to yield a glimpse upon killing enemies.
