Bungie has unveiled several big changes coming to Destiny 2 in the upcoming Season of Dawn content drop, including changes to the way exotic loot drops, the Escalation Protocol reward grind, the power cap, and more. Season of Dawn launched today, Tuesday, December 10, so you can now read the full Destiny 2: Season of Dawn update 2.7.0 patch notes below to learn about the biggest changes coming to Destiny 2.
Destiny 2: Season of Dawn Update 2.7.0 | Eververse changes
Along with the Sundial seasonal activity and brand new Lantern of Osiris artifact mods, Season of Dawn is bringing some major changes to the way players will earn gear — both out in the world and in the Eververse store. In response to fan criticism about the Eververse store and its lack of transparency, Bungie said in today’s This Week at Bungie that it will begin announcing which items being sold during a given week will only ever be sold for the premium Silver currency. Instead of having to guess which items will later be available for Bright Dust, players can now check social channels like the Bungie Twitter account after each weekly reset to see which items are Silver-only. Additionally, Bungie said it is going to increase the amount of Eververse items sold for Bright Dust during the season to around 80%, compared to Season of the Undying’s 50%.
ALSO: Destiny 2: Season of Dawn Roadmap and Changes
Weekly and repeatable Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit bounties will still only reward 200 and 10 Bright Dust, respectively, but bounties for 2019’s The Dawning event will also award these same amounts of Bright Dust (unlike Festival of the Lost’s, which did not reward any). Bungie is also disabling the ability for players to make duplicate Eververse purchases. Bungie noted that it is considering “types and themes of content offered through Eververse as well as the role of cosmetic content as a reward for achievement,” which seems to suggest future items themed around seasonal activities (such as season eight’s the Vex Offensive-themed Sparrow) could drop from seasonal activities rather than the Eververse.
Destiny 2: Season of Dawn Update 2.7.0 | Loot drop and sandbox changes
It’s not just the Eververse that’s getting a reward rework in Season of Dawn: Bungie announced details about changes to several different reward systems. First, the Fated Engram is being phased out, and now all exotic engram will only reward not-yet-obtained exotics unless all are already owned. Next, Bungie is introducing a rework of Escalation Protocol activity rewards. The wave seven chest can now be opened with every successful wave seven completion, and doing so does not require a key. Each time a player opens the chest, they’ll receive a piece of armor they don’t already have, and they’ll receive random ones after all are obtained. Finally, several changes have been made to bounties, including the addition of repeatable Gunsmith bounties and of mode-specific crucible bounties.
Bungie previously revealed details about Season of Dawn’s Solar subclass changes, but it teased that more subclass changes would be coming, as well. These were detailed in the This Week at Bungie post, including a damage increase for Titans’ Thundercrash super and a tweak to Hunters’ invisibility smoke bomb. You can find full details about each of these changes and more in the patch notes below. Bungie also announced that the Powerful reward drop cap will be increased from 950 to 960, and the Pinnacle reward cap will be increased from 960 to 970.
