Wii U, Vita Support From id Software “Extremely Unlikely”

To probably no one's surprise, id Software has no intention whatsoever to support the Wii U or PlayStation Vita.

During his QuakeCon keynote, industry legend John Carmack explained why it is "extremely unlikely"  that these platforms will ever see support from the company, saying:

I always thought that the Wii U and Vita would be great targets for Doom 3: BFG Edition. We should be able to bring that over directly, but [the platforms have] generated nothing for us on the publishing side of things, because they're somewhat marginalized platforms….

I'd like to see the games show up on the Vita or the Wii U, just to play with some of the characteristics they've got there, but it's extremely unlikely to happen. There's a finite amount of time and only so many things we can focus on.

Do you think this is a major loss for Sony and Nintendo? It certainly isn't surprising, I'll tell you that much. Let's hope things turn around for these two struggling platforms in the future. Who knows, perhaps this holiday will bring some much needed hope.
