Some Super Smash Bros players aren’t thrilled with the announcement of Fatal Fury’s Terry

Some Super Smash Bros players aren’t exactly excited about the next fighter coming to the game. Nintendo’s announcement of Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard was met with a mixed reception among the community: Many Super Smash Bros Ultimate fans invaded Nintendo’s Twitter account, either claiming that Terry is a Ken clone, or simply saying “who the hell is this?” Other users, clearly excited by the rumors saying that Overwatch’s Tracer would make it into Super Smash Bros, also expressed their disappointment for this reveal.

Terry Bogard is far from being a nobody in the fighting community. He is one of the best-known characters designed by fighting video games expert SNK, and the leading man in the Fatal Fury series. Terry’s first appearance happened in 1991 as a fighter in the first Fatal Fury game. His legacy makes him a logical addition to a fighting game such as Super Smash Bros.

This criticism comes only from a subset of Super Smash Bros players, as other fans in the fighting games community have defended Terry’s addition as a perfect fit for the game. However, Terry isn’t a popular character among new players, with many Super Smash Bros fans not even knowing who he is.

Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Super Smash Bros franchise, has revealed that he found his inspiration to create a fun fighting game with a low entry barrier by playing King of Fighters ‘95. This is another game from SNK, and one of the many fighting game franchises created by the Japanese company.

Terry Bogard is coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate in November 2019, but Nintendo isn’t going to stop there. Other popular characters are coming to the platform fighter, with bear and bird friends Banjo & Kazooie being the latest addition to the game, bringing a new stage with them. There is a mystery fighter in the works, too, with many players hoping that it is Tracer, or at least a female character.
