If you played the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare alpha on its final day, you will have noticed a new game mode added to the selection. Instead of just “Gunfight,” you could also pick “Gunfight: OSP.” However, as there was no clear explanation of what the “OSP” mode involved, many players would no doubt have avoided the suspicious game type. If you were confused by the new Modern Warfare game mode, or you just want to know more about what exactly the On-Site Procurement mode involves, here’s our guide breaking the whole thing down.
What is the Modern Warfare Gunfight: OSP mode?
While the regular Gunfight mode equips all players with a randomized assortment of primary, secondary, lethal, and tactical equipment, the Modern Warfare Gunfight: OSP mode instead gives players nothing but their fists at the start of each round. Rather than having weapons given to them, players must instead search the map for guns, before then taking the fight to the enemy.

The Modern Warfare On-Site Procurement mode adds another layer of strategy to Gunfight, forcing players to first procure useful items, with better equipment places at riskier locations, before then being able to engage the opposition. Like with the regular Gunfight variant, communication is key to winning this multi-layered game of not only player skill, but also good decision making and movement about the map.
In my experience, the OSP variant is even more chaotic than the standard Gunfight mode, with poor decisions resulting in a quick death. The introduction of C4, as well as other equipment that is currently exclusive to the OSP mode, can also make for exceptionally tricky encounters.
If you didn’t get to experience the Modern Warfare Gunfight: OSP mode during the open alpha, worry not, for it is likely to appear in the upcoming beta, scheduled to start on September 12.
