The Darksiders 2 Switch release date has officially been revealed. Publisher THQ Nordic announced the Darksiders 2 Switch release date with a new trailer. The release of a Switch port for the game was leaked earlier this year by a Darksiders 2 retail listing, but this is the first official confirmation of the Switch version. The retail leak listed the game’s release date as August 30, almost a month earlier than its confirmed, official release.
As with other Darksiders games, Darksiders 2 puts players in the role of one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse — Death, in this case — fighting angels and demons in third-person combat. THQ Nordic previously released a Darksiders Warmastered Switch version and a Switch version of the ridiculously named Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered in April and July 2019, respectively, so the Darksiders 2 Switch release date seems to confirm the publisher is seeing some benefit in porting these games to the console.

In GameRevolution’s Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition review, we found that the game’s engaging combat and interesting world mostly held up when the re-release came out for PS4, Xbox One and PC back in 2015. The Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition is coming to Switch in September 26, bringing the 2012 action game and all its DLC to Nintendo’s hybrid console.
THQ’s most recent Darksiders game, Darksiders 3, didn’t fare so well. The third game in the Darksiders series (which did not release on Switch) received a Metacritic score of 64, and our own Darksiders 3 review gave the game a 2 out of 5, finding the game to be a broken, repetitive mess. Still, it might not matter, as THQ Nordic wasn’t bothered by the game’s mixed reviews, and we learned that Darksiders 3 sales were most likely enough for the developer to consider creating a new Darksiders game. The current Darksiders game in development is a Diablo-style spin-off called Darksiders Genesis.
