Private messages are down on three of the most popular social networks in the world. Facebook Messenger, Instagram DMs, and Twitter DMs are down, though other functions seem to be working on those websites. As of right now, we’re not sure what the connection is between these services, but it may have something to do with the massive DDOS attack against Cloudflare just a few days ago.
How to fix Facebook Messenger down, Instagram DMs down, Twitter DMs down
If you’re finding that Facebook Messenger isn’t working or you can’t access your Instagram or Twitter DMs, you’re not alone. Hundreds of users are reporting the same issue, so the best thing you can do is just to relax and wait for service to be restored. It appears as though Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook are all still working besides the private message functionality, so you can still get all your hot memes, you just can’t message them to anyone directly for now.

While Twitter Support spends most of its time trying to justify why one message is left on the service while another is deleted, if the outage is big enough you can keep an eye on that account to see when DMs will come back online. Also, the search function still works on Twitter, so you can see what other people are saying about it.

For Facebook, you can check the official developer server status dashboard. Here you can see when Facebook is down, and when the problems have been fixed. It can take a bit to update, but you get a good view here of what’s going on with the service.

Weirdly, Instagram doesn’t have a great official way to see if its servers are down. Instead, you’ll have to rely on a third-party service to know when any issues with Instagram DMs down are resolved.
