SNK released a new trailer today revealing the first Samurai Shodown DLC character. Ice maiden Rimururu will join Samurai Shodown‘s already diverse cast a downloadable character, offered up as part of the game’s season pass.
Introduced in 1995’s Samurai Shodown III: Blades of Blood, Rimururu is the younger sister of series veteran Nakoruru. Together, these two represent some of the only Ainu characters in video games.
Unlike her sister who brings her pet falcon into combat, Rimururu fights by using the ice spirit Konril. This includes some pretty unique moves such as the ability to create a platform that she can stand on in the middle of the stage. Of course, she can’t stand on the platform for too long, as she’ll eventually fall down and become vulnerable.
Considering how violent the Samurai Shodown games can get, Rimururu’s age has caused some controversy in the past. Being the youngest member of the cast, she has often been excluded from the violent death animations of the games. Eventually, Samurai Shodown 5 Special finally let her be subject to these. However, that game caused controversy in Japan due to its much more violent nature compared to previous entries, and later revisions of 5 Special toned down the violence.
The trailer below doesn’t indicate whether or not Rimururu be once again subject to the same restrictions. Instead, it focuses on her causing the violence as she demonstrates her moves on the existing cast.
With Rimururu’s reveal, only three more DLC characters have yet to be announced for Samurai Shodown‘s season pass. SNK has yet to give out any pricing for her or any other future DLC characters. That said, early adopters who either preorder the game or buy it before June 30 will get the season pass for free.
Samurai Shodown launches on June 25 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC and Nintendo Switch versions are set to arrive sometime in the winter.
