E3 may be over, but there’s plenty to look forward to this summer. The long-awaited third installment in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch alongside the hotly anticipated next entry in the Fire Emblem franchise. Anime fans have brawler Kill la Kill – If to look forward to while first-person shooter aficionados will get another opportunity to annihilate scores of Nazi scum through Wolfenstein Youngblood. The following are all the best July 2019 games that PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC users should keep on their radars.

July 2019 Games | Dragon Quest Builders 2

July 2019 Games

Dragon Quest Builders 2 finally releases for PlayStation 4 and Switch owners in North America and Europe on July 12. This sequel promises to once again meld the franchise’s signature RPG elements with Minecraft and ActRaiser‘s sandbox mechanics. Similarly to how the original Builders is set in the original Dragon Quest‘s world, Builders 2‘s narrative is based on an alternate-history version of Dragon Quest 2.

The game will introduce new features that include the ability to fly and travel underwater. Additionally, despite the fact that the first game is single-player only, Builders 2 will allow fans to team up with three other players locally or online. Seeing as how the Japanese version of the the title scored a 37 out of 40 in Famitsu, there’s reason to be excited.

July 2019 Games | Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

July 2019 Games

Team Ninja, the developer responsible for the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive games, will attempt to resurrect the Marvel Ultimate Alliance franchise when Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order releases exclusively for Switch on July 19. While this long-awaited next installment will retain the frantic hack and slash gameplay found in prior entries, it’ll take place in a different universe and feature characters that have appeared in popular superhero films.

Wolverine, Iron Man, Thor, Deadpool, Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Star-Lord, and more will be available to face off against such imposing villains as Green Goblin, Dormammu, Ultron, and Thanos. Here’s hoping that The Black Order is worth the 10-year-long wait.

July 2019 Games | Fire Emblem: Three Houses

July 2019 Games

Lately, Nintendo has been sharing a ton of character art, screenshots, and trailers in anticipation of Fire Emblem: Three Houses‘ release for Switch on July 26. Intelligent Systems is co-developing the title with Koei Tecmo Games this time around in an attempt to immerse players in spectacular battle sequences and detailed environments. Though little is known about the main campaign, the game will maintain many of the features found in previous entries including classes, personal skills, weapon durability, and free-roaming exploration mechanics.

That’s not to say that Three Houses won’t add anything add new, as an in-game calendar, certification exams, a fighting weapon type, and both noble and commoner classes are set to make their debut. From what fans have seen so far, there’s a good chance that the sixteenth entry in the Fire Emblem franchise will stay in line with the property’s intricate and addictive nature.

July 2019 Games | Kill la Kill – If

kill la kill if ultimate ryuko 2, July 2019 Games

Few other anime match Kill la Kill‘s level of absurdity. It stars a schoolgirl named Ryuko Matoi, the likes of which must don a very revealing suit in order to take on Honnouji Academy’s student council and avenge her father’s murder. As expected from studio behind Gurren Lagann, this personal tale eventually has Ryuko fight for mankind’s survival as an evil fashion empire attempts to brainwash the entire world with its attractive designer labels.

Hopefully developer A+ Games will able to recapture the series’ ridiculousness through brawler Kill la Kill – If, which is set to release for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC on July 26. Little is known about the game as of the time of this writing, though its website does state that it will follow an original story and include scenes from the anime. Of course, beloved characters like Satsuki Kiryuin, Nonon Jakazure, and Mako Mankanshoku are set to appear as playable fighters. The Ultimate Double Naked DTR will also show up to the fray, just in case fans haven’t gotten their fair share of nudist action lately.

July 2019 Games | Wolfenstein Youngblood

Wolfenstein Youngblood release date, July 2019 Games

The next entry in the modern Wolfenstein saga, Wolfenstein Youngblood, is set to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on July 26. Seeing as how it stars B.J. Blazkowicz’s twin daughters, Jessica and Sophia, fans are given the option to play the game with a cooperative partner or with an AI-controlled substitute. As players search an alternate version of 1980s Paris for the pair’s father, they’ll aid the French Resistance in its attempt to win back the country from the Nazis.

Most missions will be available to complete in a non-linear order, meaning veterans will be able to take on the game’s tougher sections from the get-go if they please. Of course, Youngblood will preserve the tight first-person shooter mechanics featured in previous games while introducing new gear and abilities to unlock. From what Bethesda has shown off so far, this entry seems like it’s being made for newcomers and die-hard fans alike through its slick, familiar mechanics and new open level design.

August promises to further turn up the heat, as Double Fine Productions’ Rad, Remedy Entertainment’s Control, and PlatinumGames’ Astral Chain are all slated to release next month. Afterwords, heavy hitters like Borderlands 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Death Stranding will likely keep video game aficionados occupied for the rest of the year. The first week of July may offer fans their last reprieve until late December. From July 12 onward, they’ll be buried in software to enjoy.
