Microsoft has announced that a new Xbox backward compatibility sale is on right now, with the publisher is boasting that it’s the biggest sale of backward compatible titles it’s ever held. The new sale offers more than 200 titles, all of them are classic Xbox and Xbox 360 games that work on Xbox One, and several have even been specifically enhanced for Xbox One and Xbox One X. The games on offer include titles from the Gears of War, Fable, Assassin’s Creed, Grand Theft Auto, Tom Clancy, Rayman, and Bioshock franchises.
The full list of 247 titles can be seen over on the Microsoft store page. The sale begins today, May 21, and runs until May 27, so you have just under a week to take advantage of all the offers. The games in this particular sale consist entirely of original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles which are playable on the current-gen Xbox One. There are even games from even earlier consoles that were just re-released on Xbox 360, such as Altered Beast and Phantasy Star II on the Genesis, or Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Rayman 3 from the Dreamcast.
Some of the titles such as the first Red Dead Redemption and Splinter Cell Blacklist, the most recent title in the stealth series starring Sam Fisher which may be getting a new game soon, are enhanced for Xbox One X. This means that they load faster, perform better, have improved framerates, and just generally look better than they have before.
Games discounted in the Xbox Backward Compatibility sale have had their prices cut by up to 75%. Other notable games on sale include the Dead Space trilogy, the Crysis games, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and World At War, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dragon Age 1 and 2, Far Cry 2 and Blood Dragon, and Mass Effect 2 and 3 but strangely not the first Mass Effect, which was published by Microsoft themselves. The sale runs until Monday May 27.
