In a strangely surprising move, an Alien Isolation digital series has been announced by IGN. The video series will expand on the events of the Alien Isolation game, an interquel to the Alien movies that sees Ellen Ripley’s daughter Amanda Ripley fight against a terrifying xenomorph of her very own. The survival horror video game proved to be an excellent entry into a media franchise that had some great (and not so great) video games, and now it will be followed up with a digital series that will be exclusively available through IGN.
The Alien Isolation digital series is an interesting little project. In short, it’s a reimagining of the story of 2014’s Alien Isolation, a survival horror video game set in the Alien universe. This game has you facing off against humans, xenomorphs, and terrifying robots as you try to escape a space station that isn’t in the best of shape. It’s a classic sci-fi horror story in every sense of the word.
IGN will be making use of much of the game’s existing cutscene footage to tell this narrative. However, this isn’t going to be a complete rehash of the original story. New story beats have been brought in to expand on the overall narrative, remixing it into a richer, more fulfilling experience for viewers to enjoy. While IGN has certainly done their fair share of original content before, this Alien Isolation digital series is going to be their biggest project to date.
The show will be launched digitally via IGN’s website and YouTube channel in seven episodes. All seven episodes will be available to watch simultaneously according to a description of the launch trailer for the digital series (which you can watch below). You’ll be able to watch all the episodes starting tomorrow, February 28, 2019, at 12:00 PM Eastern time/5:00 PM GMT.
