Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers release date and Dante-look-alike

Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers release date, new class, and race revealed

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers dropped a whole host of new details for the upcoming expansion. The game’s fan festival was in Paris this year where producer Naoki Yoshida held a keynote about Shadowbringers. Not least of all was the Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers release date.

That release is slated for July 2, 2019, putting a firm date on a previously nebulous “summer 2019.” Pre-orders for the expansion are set for February 6, this Wednesday. Any player who pre-orders will be able to participate in the expansion’s early access starting on June 28. A special Baby Gremlin minion also comes with a pre-order. The Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers release date is a few weeks earlier in the year than its predecessors, which also released in June.

Gunbreaker is the new class coming in Shadowbringers. The gunblade-wielding tank class will start at level 60 in Gridania, although Yoshida did say that this might change before release. Alongside the new class was the full reveal of Final Fantasy XII‘s Viera as a playable race. The currently female-only race closely resembles Fran from FFXII, and their home Eruyt Village has been transported into FFXIV. The rabbit-eared humanoids are known for their revealing dress, on full display in their XIV appearance.

A new alliance raid was also announced to be coming with Shadowbringers. While other alliance raids have called back to past Final Fantasy games, this new one is a collaboration with Nier: Automata. The raid hasn’t been shown yet, but hopefully some Nier-themed rewards are available. Several new zones were also shown from the upcoming expansion.

Shadowbringers was announced in November 2018 with a summer 2019 date. The expansion sees players become the Warrior of Darkness in the continued narrative of Final Fantasy XIV. A New Game Plus is expected alongside Shadowbringers, and the Blue Mage class was added in a recent patch.

Expect more news about Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers to come as we get closer to the game’s release date. The expansion’s official site can be found here.
