The Red Dead Online beta is now available, with the Red Dead Redemption 2 multiplayer component finally being unveiled by Rockstar. There’s a lot to unpack, from its griefer-ridden Free Roam through to its multiple PvP multiplayer modes, but now that the GameRevolution team has spent some time with it we thought we’d share our thoughts.
You can share your own opinions in the comments section below. As always, we’ll feature our favorite in tomorrow’s Tell GR.
Paul Tamburro, executive editor: “I’m in two minds. On one hand, exploring the more-or-less untouched world map from Red Dead Redemption 2‘s single-player with friends is highly appealing. On the other hand, RDR2‘s clunky controls don’t exactly translate well to a multiplayer experience, and I really hope there are separate servers for those who make use of auto-aim and those who don’t.”
Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “I’ve enjoyed Red Dead Online quite a bit so far. It offers most of the trappings of the single-player while also blending in multiplayer pretty seamlessly. My only point of anxiety about it is the high price of all the items, and the low amount of cash you can generate. I’m hoping I just find a better way to grind, but it’s feeling a bit like GTA Online in this regard.”
Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “I streamed it for an hour and barely got through the prologue sequence. I created a wild lady avatar, completed some introductory missions, before then being paired up with some fellow noobs for the first co-op mission. I’m looking forward to exploring the world… once the tutorials are over! “
