It’s been a few years since we first heard news of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Despite rumors to the contrary, developer Tetsuya Nomura has stated that FF7 Remake development is still proceeding apace. Fans had been clamoring for a remake of Final Fantasy 7 for quite a few years now. It was certainly a delightful surprise to have learned that a remake was indeed in the works back in 2015. Since then, things have been relatively quiet, and people had been wondering about the progress of the FF7 Remake development.
Final Fantasy 7 is one of the most beloved titles in the gaming world and it’s really quite difficult to get anything of this scale made without a number of rumors cropping up. Perhaps one of the more troubling rumors was the notion that the game was in “development hell,” a term for a project that isn’t actually making any progress.
Other fans were concerned about the recent hype surrounding Kingdom Hearts 3. There was the very real possibility that Square Enix may have had transferred resources from a troubled remake to a newer project that had better prospects for success.
Thankfully, it appears that most of these nay-saying rumors surrounding the FF7 Remake development don’t hold any weight, at least with developer Tetsuya Nomura. In a conversation with Famitsu [Japanese], Mr. Nomura states (via a translation provided by Twitter user DKHF_) that the development team is still quite hard at work on the game. However, Square Enix’s PR has had a stronger focus on Kingdom Hearts 3 as of late.
While the PR’s focus on Kingdom Hearts 3 may be giving the appearance that FF7 Remake development has stalled, Mr. Nomura assures fans that this is not the case. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing more about the return of one of the gaming world’s most beloved classics as soon as the hype from Kingdom Hearts 3 settles down.
