Red Dead Redemption 2 Ultimate Edition Missing – Why is the Special Edition Installing?

Don’t round up Rockstar just yet. While the Red Dead Redemption 2 Ultimate Edition missing problem may persist for some, there happens to be a very good reason as to why the Special Edition is installing instead of the higher-priced Ultimate Edition. We’ll look at why below, as well as what to do if you haven’t got your Ultimate Edition code or have duplicate War Horse codes from your retailer.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Ultimate Edition Missing – Why is Special Edition Installing?

So, you’ve put in your code and, like many on Twitter, are met with a “Red Dead Redemption 2: Special Edition Content” message instead of what you were presumably promised. But the Ultimate Edition isn’t actually missing. The bonus outfits, online rank bonus, and more, are all tied behind the fact that Red Dead Online hasn’t yet launched and, ergo, you can’t get content for something that isn’t available yet.

Rockstar itself explains on its support page that “While the installed game may appear to be the Special Edition, all Ultimate Edition in-game bonuses and content are associated with your player profile and will be available when Red Dead Redemption Online launches.”

For now, you’ll have to twiddle your thumbs until November and make do with the litany of Special Edition content at your disposal.

However, some may be dealing with a far more pressing issue, insomuch as their Ultimate Edition code is nowhere to be found for certain pieces of content. Users on Reddit are reporting that GameStop in particular has not delivered the goods when it comes to the required codes needed to unlock everything in the Ultimate Edition.

To rectify the situation, it’d be wise to contact the retailer immediately, as well as checking any and all receipts for missing codes, as stores can occasionally print them below your official pre-order as a bonus.
