Microsoft Surface Pro 6 and Laptop 2 Announced

The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 and Microsoft Laptop 2 have been announced during the Redmond-based company’s fall event. These two new devices are the successors to the tech giant’s efforts to make its own hardware from last year. Both of the new pieces of hardware will be released October 16, with pre-orders available now.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 will be the latest entry into the company’s line of laptop-tablet hybrids. The most noteworthy addition to this new version of the Surface Pro is that it will now be available in matte-black, as well as platinum. This color scheme for the device has not been seen since its very first iteration and its successor, the Surface Pro 2. Another notable fact is that the device will have the same connectivity ports as the previous model. This means that, despite the Surface Go featuring them, the new Surface Pro will not have USB-C ports.

As for its more detailed specifications, the device will have a 12.3-inch touchscreen display and will still weight 1.7 pounds. The device will also be using Intel’s eighth generation core CPUs and quad-core processors. The company claims that this has made the device 67 percent faster than the previous model. The device will begin at $899 with an i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of internal storage.

As for the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2, it also is very similar to its predecessor. However, the base model, which is offered at $999, will have 8 GB of memory, rather than the 4GB the original Surface Laptop offered. The physical specs are the same, with a 13.5-inch display and no USB-C ports. Microsoft reports that the device will have a battery life of 14.5 hours and that it is 85 percent faster than the previous model. The laptop will also use Intel’s eight generation CPUs in all its models. The Surface Laptop 2 will start with a 128 GB SSD and can go up to 1 TB in storage.
