Nintendo Switch Online Downloaded 5 Million Times

It has recently been revealed that Nintendo Switch Online has been downloaded over five million times since its global release a little over a week ago.

Variety reported yesterday that the companion app for Nintendo’s hybrid console has launched to an astonishing degree of success. This astronomical figure represents around 25% of Switch owners worldwide, if compared to the figures presented by Nintendo’s financial highlights report as of June 30, 2018.

This is likely due to several factors. For one thing, a player’s cloud saves are deleted when they unsubscribe from the service. Therefore, many players likely made sure to sign up as quickly as possible in order to retain their progress from the formerly free-to-play titles that would be affected by the update.

However, another reason is that Nintendo has continued to provide its customer base with consistently quality content for the Switch. The last Nintendo Direct showcase testifies to this. From the announcement of Sonic the Hedgehog as part of the SEGA Ages campaign, to the constant additions being made to the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo has balanced the need for its players to purchase a paid online subscription by offering players a serious bang for their buck.

In other recent Nintendo news, the Dragalia Lost mobile game is available for download now on iPhone, although it doesn’t seem to be appearing on the Android Play Store just yet. Highlighted at the Nintendo Direct showcase back on September 13, not much is known about the game. However, if its Nintendo predecessors Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp are anything to go by, it will likely be a very successful title.
