Rage 2

Rage 2 Won’t Have Loot Boxes

Nothing quite sends us into a Rage like loot boxes. Despite the protests of players everywhere, loot boxes are still a thing and they will more than likely continue existing for the long-time future. But fear not, Rage 2 loot boxes aren’t happening. That’s right, it’s so good we’ll say it twice. Rage 2 won’t have loot boxes, so now we can all sleep easy at night.

Sure some loot boxes aren’t all that bad, Overwatch’s cosmetic loot boxes are a far cry from Battlefront 2’s original loot crates after all. But regardless of how you feel about the differences between certain loot boxes, it doesn’t change the fact that after hearing loot boxes will be in a game it does send a unique kind of fear into even the hardest of hearts.

Rage 2 is on everyone’s lips lately, and so with the hype being so strong it was only natural that someone would ask the dreaded question: will Rage 2 have microtransactions of any sort? It’s the kind of damning question that can now make or break a game depending on the type of microtransactions involved, if any.

Thankfully Id Software studio director Tim Willits was willing to answer, and with some pretty good news too. Speaking to Game Star, Willits cheekily said, “we have this novel approach: You buy the game and then you play it.”

Willits also mentioned that even with Avalanche being brought in to tackle the scope of the open world, it won’t overshadow Id’s participation with the gameplay experience. “It has never been such a ‘develop a game and then show it to us’ opportunity between us.” He said, “the game has always been a collaborative project, featuring “id-like first-person shooter action. And at Avalanche is the Open World expertise.”

To hear that the studios are focusing more on gameplay experience such as post-launch content, rather than making more money through microtransactions, is no doubt comforting to many.

Now they can enjoy the Rage 2 hype train in peace. We don’t blame you either.
