Bayonetta 2 on Switch Fails to Reach Top Ten in Sales Chart

Bayonetta 2 for the Nintendo Switch debuted to 9,532 units sold in its first week. This underwhelming debut means that Bayonetta 2 has failed to break into the top ten of the software sales chart in its very first week of release in Japan.

Meanwhile, Bayonetta Ultimate Climax Edition for the Nintendo Switch managed to do a little bit better than its sequel, with 11,694 units sold. According to the most recent Media Create Sales figures, both Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta Ultimate Climax Edition broke into the top twenty software sales chart at fourteenth and thirteenth place respectively.

Impressively, Monster Hunter World for the PS4 has managed to hold onto the top spot for the fourth consecutive week, which means that it has maintained that position for a month since release. This unstoppable winning streak amounts to 1,836,291 in total lifetime sales, including Limited and Bundle Editions. Monster Hunter World‘s top form shouldn’t be surprising, considering that it became the fastest game in Capcom history to achieve six million shipments worldwide.

Several new releases broke into the top twenty software sales chart, including the previously mentioned Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta Ultimate Climax Edition for the Nintendo Switch. Surprising newcomers include Secret of Mana for the PS4, which managed to debut at second place with 36,042 units sold, and Idolish7: Twelve Fantasia for the PS Vita, which debuted at fourth place with 21,481 units sold. As has been the case for the past few weeks, no Xbox game managed to break into the top twenty of the software sales chart.

On the hardware sales chart, the PS4 remained on top for the sixth consecutive week with 49,502 units sold, accounting for both the PS4 Slim and Pro. The Nintendo Switch remained a fierce contender at second place with 39,303  units sold. The Xbox One family had the worst sales with only 133 and 57 units sold for the Xbox One X and Xbox One respectively.
