God of War Has No Nudity (But a Lot of Violence)

God of War‘s ESRB rating has been released, and along with it being a fresh direction in terms of gameplay for the hack ‘n’ slash series, the reboot will also seemingly move away from the copious amounts of nudity featured in its predecessors.

God of War will be rated M for “Mature,” meaning that players will have to be 17+ if they wish to legally purchase it. The breakdown for this rating reveals some snippets of information about the game, including various ultra violent acts committed by Kratos, though stops short of mentioning any nudity or sex scenes. Considering that this has been a big part of previous God of War games, it seems that Kratos has toned down his act now that he’s someone’s dad.

The description for the rating (which contains minor spoilers for the game) can be read below:

“This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of half-human, half-god-like Kratos as he battles supernatural forces with his son. From an over-the-shoulder perspective, players travel through the Norse wilderness and use axes, double-chained blades, and swords to battle various enemies (e.g., rival gods/demigods, monsters, dragons, skeleton warriors). Combat is frequent and often bloody, with characters punching and kicking each other repeatedly, using bladed weapons to slash/stab/impale enemies. Larger enemies and bosses are dispatched in more intense sequences of violence: Kratos slashing and stabbing a dragon’s tongue; a character using an axe to hook and tear off an ogre’s jaw. During one sequence, players decapitate (off-screen) an imprisoned character and carry the severed head around; headless corpses also appear in other scenes. The words “f**k” and “a*shole” appear in the dialogue.”

Looks like Kratos won’t be indulging in any awkward threesomes this time around, nor will developers SIE Santa Monica Studio be tasking us with taking part in a quick-time event love scene.
