If you were to look back a month ago and tell people that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD would receive harsh critical reception most people wouldn't believe you. However, our local expert Daniel Bischoff as well as over three dozen other game critics found it to be just that: disappointing. But don't tell that to the large sum of people who have already invested in it.
Robomodo Co-Owner Josh Tsui revealed to Gamasutra that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD has already sold over 120,000 units in its first seven days post-launch. That's only including the Xbox Live version with a PC and PlayStation 3 version to come, and also discounts the "consistent" sales that have been productive after launch week.
Not every game can break six digits in its first week with a 66 Metacritic score, but is it really a surprise that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was able to? I don't think so.
