It’s that time of month again, when Sony releases the list of the most-downloaded games for the previous month. In June, Sony announced today, the asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror game Friday the 13th: The Game was top dog. Jason Voorhees is reigning supreme.
Friday the 13th: The Game pits seven player-controlled counselors vs. one player-controlled Jason. The counselors need to try to escape (or even kill) Jason while Jason roams around the camp trying to kill every counselor he encounters.
Gun Media’s Friday the 13th: The Game was second in May, which was impressive considering its rough launch and sub-part score on Metacritic, not to mention the fact that it was only out for about a week in May. Now, with a full month of opportunity, it topped the charts, signaling that gamer interest in the game exceeds whatever issues game critics perceived (for the record, we gave Friday the 13th: The Game a 4/5).
Perhaps most surprising, Friday the 13th: The Game edged out Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. That said, the N. Sane Trilogy was only out for literally one day in June, so it’s likely going to sweep up in July and claim the top spot, especially considering that July is a particularly slow month for game releases.
