Sony Close To Acquiring Cloud-Based Gaming Service

Following the rumor that Sony could strike a deal with either one of the two major cloud-gaming services, GaiKai or OnLive, and announce said deal at E3, MCVUK is reporting that Sony may be raising the stakes in this agreement—possibly even a full acquisition of the whichever company they go with.

The implications of an acquisition of this magnitude go far beyond the PlayStation family of consoles. This could bring PlayStation-branded content to a number of different platforms, including televisions, PCs, tablets, and more.

It also could mean that distribution for the PlayStation 4 could be fully digital, or at least a fully digital offering could be introduced alongside retail releases.

In less than one week, on Monday, June 4th at 6PM PDT, Sony will hold its annual E3 press conference and these questions and more will be answered.
