The Amazing Spider-Man “Playground” Trailer Looks… Amazing?

Now, let me say up front that I have not seen Activision's The Amazing Spider-Man first hand. Nick Tan did. Louis Edwards did. But I didn't. I don't think I will before it's released.

But looking at this trailer, I think I can say confidently that it is way too far from ready for release. The trouble with Activision and their yearly Spidey-releases is that Beenox is only one development studio. Call of Duty has two studios… sometimes 4 or 5 studios working on it year round. Beenox is only on studio. How can they keep up this pace?

The second issue dragging down the Spidey license in video games is that it's far too frequently tied to movie releases. Spider-Man: Edge of Time hit store shelves last Fall. The Amazing Spider-Man, both the movie and the game is set for release this summer. That's less than a year to churn out a brand new game.

Unless something drastic is done, our favorite wallcrawler will soon pick up Batman's mantle as the worst video game license.
