EA Intends To Hire 500 New Montreal Staff

Regardless of your thoughts on Mass Effect: Andromeda, it clearly hasn't impacted EA's growth plans in any negative way. In an announcement from the Quebec government yesterday, it was revealed that EA intends to "invest in its Montreal operations," primarily by way of expanding Montreal employee counts to an additional 500 jobs over the next decade.

Quebec elaborated further on the arrangement, explaining that EA's plans are not just about added jobs but also infrastructure and general industry goodwill. Minister of finance Carlos Leitão added the following:

We offer Electronic Arts a stable, predictable, competitive fiscal framework enabling the company to move forward with this substantial expansion. This favorable environment led to the positioning of Quebec as a leader in the video game industry and as an internationally recognized centre of excellence.

EA's presence in Montreal is not new (it's been there since 2004), but the hiring spree implies good things for its two newer studios in the area, BioWare Montreal and Motive Studios. It's not clear precisely how the 500 human resources will be applied to each over the coming decade, but regardless, seeing the game industry grow in any major city, generally speaking, can only be seen as a positive.
