Former Factor 5 Studio Head Says Switch Performance Lies Beteween Wii U And Xbox One, And That Factor 5 May Return

It's been difficult to pinpoint Nintendo Switch's exact graphical capabilities up to the this point, in particular because its biggest launch title is a gorgeous but spruced-up Wii U game in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Some have indicated that titles like Fast RMX demonstrate the Switch's substantial power boost over Wii U, but we likely won't see more immediately obvious evidence until some brand new higher-profile titles reach the system. There's no doubt the likes of Super Mario Odyssey will make Switch's hardware sing, but what about until then?

With no "two GameCubes duct-taped together" metric like the Wii had, we need to rely on developers to fill in the blanks. In an interview with former Factor 5 co-founder Julian Eggebrecht done by German gaming site Spieleveteranen, that's exactly what happened.

The interview is in German, but key points Eggebrecht made can be seen below (thanks NeoGAF).

  • Switch is performance-wise between Wii U and Xbox One
  • Developing is as easy or even easier than on PS4
  • All modern GPU standards
  • They [Eggebrecht and Co] got all rights back and Factor 5 is alive (Turrican!!)

Beyond the Switch insight, news of Factor 5's survival is also quite notable, as the studio was beloved for its Star Wars: Rogue Squadron series throughout the N64 and GameCube eras, as well for dozens of titles through the 80s and 90s. Eggebrecht had previously formed the studio ToughFactor after Factor 5's closing, but it appears returning to his and the company's roots is now in the cards.

We learned yesterday that Switch is selling exceptionally well in its first couple of weeks, with 1.5 million consoles sold globally and an 89% attach rate for Zelda. For more Nintendo Switch, check out our coverage hub below.
