Don’t Worry, Friday The 13th: The Game Is Not Canceled

In film-related news, the upcoming second reboot of the Friday the 13th series, which was slated for October 2017, has been scrapped by Paramount. Reportedly, this is directly related to Paramount's poor box office returns with Rings, and the upcoming rights transfer to New Line Cinema.

This had the gaming community in a flurry, though, wondering about the fate of the wildly popular (with streamers, at least) Friday the 13th: The Game. Since the IP of Jason Voorhees and all that is owned by the same people, many had to wonder if Jason Voorhees would ever again grace the smallest screens on the largest consoles.

But fret not, Friday the 13th: The Game is still on schedule, with the developers confirming via Twitter that "we are in no way affiliated with the movie," and that they are "hard at work coming out Early 2017."

Friday the 13th: The Game was, during it's closed beta period, the most-streamed game on Twitch.tv, as many gamers became enamored with its asymmetrical multiplayer and visceral horror gore. Although, balance did seem to be an issue, as Jason seemed to be able to rip through camps with relative ease. I personally never played in a game where any camper made it out alive.

The game is still being worked on, though, and the "early 2017" release window has become a bit of a running gag in the minds of F13 fans. It's a deliberately vague term, as the developers do not want to over-promise and under-deliver. Vague or not, the multiplayer version of the game is still slated for a release sometime this year, while the single-player campaign is due in the Summer.
