Nintendo just released a consolidated financial statement that contains information both of great interest to investors as well as consumers. Hidden beneath several pages of cash flows and tables is confirmation of the long-awaited NX, the next-generation gaming console for Nintendo.
The document specifically states:
The 2017 release date as well as mention of it skipping E3 2016 has been a big surprise given what previously appeared to be concrete details of the console's release this year. Nintendo says that it will debut the console, along with its software line-up, "by the end of the year". This points toward a three to five month delay from its original release month, which Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima has explained by saying that he "wanted to make sure there were games to go along with the NX [launch]".
The Legend of Zelda for Wii U appears to be coming to the device, confirming the cross-generation play that has been rumored for more than a year. This will once and for all explain why the next Zelda is taking so long to develop.
