The Sea of Thieves world map is pretty daunting. With so many different islands to explore, outposts to visit and caves to venture into, making your way around its open-world environment can initially feel like an insurmountable task. Fortunately for you, we’ve compiled a handy guide to help you during your pirating adventures, ensuring your journey across the seas is as hassle-free as possible.
Sea of Thieves Map Locations
This world map from Rare outlines all of the islands in the game (zoom in for a closer look). This highlights the three areas featured in the game, each of which offers something a little different to players who explore them.
There are 64 islands in total in Sea of Thieves, spread across each area. These range from skeleton forts, where players can defeat waves of enemies (if the skull cloud appears over them) in order to earn a boatload of treasure, islands on which to hunt for treasure or take down bounties, and outposts where you can cash in the goods you’ve looted in exchange for gold.
Take a look at the three different locations in Sea of Thieves below:
The Shores of Plenty
The Shores of Plenty are located in the North-West region of the map, featuring mainly small desert islands and lush foliage. A much warmer and tropical setting, this map location feels less treacherous to explore and is easier on the eye.
The Ancient Isles
This region takes of the Southern region of the Sea of Thieves world map, featuring larger islands and plenty of caves.
The Wilds
A more foreboding region, The Wilds are located on the North-East of the map and consist of haunted islands and ghost skeletons. An imposing sight, The Wilds is a lot less vibrant than other locations, with their more sinister tone being complemented by decomposing wildlife and permanent darkness.
