Huawei Mate 20, Pro, and X Announced

Chinese mobile manufacturer Huawei announced the Huawei Mate 20 today, along with the Pro and X versions of the device. These three devices will act as the company’s flagship smartphones for this year. The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are available now for $925 (or $983) and $1,055, respectively, with the Mate 20 X releasing on October 26 for $1,041.

The previously reported rumors of the Mate 20’s notch have been revealed to be true. The device features only the front-facing camera on the upper portion of its screen. It will be the larger of the two Mate 20 devices available today and will feature a 6.5-inch, 2244 x 1080 LCD display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. Huawei claims that the device has an extremely power efficient display with its 820 nits of brightness.

It will have three rear-facing cameras available. These will be an ultra-wide angle 16-megapixel camera, a wide angle one with 12-megapixels, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. The handset will be available in 4 GB of RAM and 6 GB of RAM models, which explains the two price points. Both versions will have 128 GB of internal storage.

It’s larger counterpart, the Mate 20 Pro, will have a smaller screen, but bigger notch than its sibling. However, the device has 3D facial recognition and on-screen fingerprint scanner to make up for this. In addition to this, the handset will feature Huawei’s Kirin 980 processor which features a seven-nanometer size, rivaling that of Apple’s A12 chip series.

As for its cameras, the Mate 20 Pro will also have three lenses on the rear. The main camera will have a 40-megapixel lens, while its ultra-wide-angle will be 20-megapixels. The third camera will be an eight-megapixel telephoto with three times optical zoom.

The Mate 20 Pro X, on the other hand, is more of a phablet device. It will feature a 7.2-inch OLED display. During its reveal, Huawei emphasized the device’s gaming capabilities with its vapor cooling design.
