Thanks to the Fortnite 8.01 update, we now have a brand-new item to play with: The Fortnite Buried Treasure Map. It’s a fun new addition to the Fortnite formula that should help introduce a new level of wackiness and depth to what could be seen as a tiring formula. Epic Games is usually quite good at introducing new ideas into the game, so let’s see how this one works, shall we?
Where to find the Fortnite Buried Treasure Map location
Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed Buried Treasure Map location in Fortnite. We’d love to point you in the direction of a Treasure Map, but we can’t. Instead, we can tell you that you will find the Legendary item randomly as floor loot or inside chests. Surprisingly, however, the Buried Treasure Maps are relatively high in number. We have been able to find two or three over the course of a game.
Once you pick up a Buried Treasure Map, things start to get interesting. Bear in mind, though, that you can only hold one at a time and it will take up a slot in your inventory space. If you do pick up a second map, it will simply replace the one you’re already holding. You can also pick up Buried Treasure Maps from defeated enemies who were holding one.
How to use the Fortnite Buried Treasure Map
Once you own a Buried Treasure Map, simply highlight it on your inventory to use it. Activated, a dark orange dotted line will magically appear on the floor around your character. Follow this line to find your loot. Unfortunately, too, the Buried Treasure locations are seemingly random. You can’t know where one is unless you use the Map.
Following the dotted line will eventually lead you to the X Marks the Spot location. This will be a large black X painted onto the ground, emanating a golden glow. Only the Map holder can see this, not even your teammates can. Head into the middle of the big X and start digging with your Pickaxe. This will take a good number of swings to complete, so watch out for other players. If other players notice you digging, they can join in, too, which will make the process faster.
After digging up the chest, simply open it to claim your legendary loot. Its contents are random, but you’ll likely find some legendary weapons and always a Chug Jug, which will raise your health back up to full when used. Well worth the time and effort.

A brand-new Fortnite Buried Treasure item has been teased by Epic Games. The treasure map item has appeared via the in-game news feed, but very little information was given alongside it. What is the Fortnite Buried Treasure item?
Unfortunately, Epic Games didn’t go into any details regarding what the teased buried treasure item is. All we know is what it will look like and that you will need to “scour the island for hidden loot with the new Buried Treasure item.”
As you can see in the image above, the item is a treasure map that a pirate would cling onto. It shows a location of the Fortnite map, with an X marking a spot that you will presumably have to find. Clearly, the map is showing the volcano. If you head to where the X is (thanks to FortTory), you will find a stone X on the floor. At the time of writing, however, you cannot do anything there. Also thanks to FortTory’s digging, we know that, presumably, there will be some digging involved on our end once the item is live.
Files in the game’s code show “shovel” and “dirt to dig.” We will all be looking for buried treasure, it seems. What that treasure is, however, is anyone’s guess. Perhaps some ultra-rare loot? Maybe a Battle Star? Who knows?
Fortnite Buried Treasure release date
We can’t say for sure what the Fortnite buried treasure item release date will be. Despite this, we can make an educated guess that it will be part of the next game update. These tend to go live on Tuesdays, so we could even see the release of the Fortnite treasure map item as soon as tomorrow, March 5.

Once you reached Tier 86 of the Season 6 Battle Pass, you received Nightshade. A female version of Tomatohead, she and her Night Cloak back bling are all part of the Pizza Pit theme; the perfect complement when you're fighting against the Burger menace. -
Recon Expert
Decidedly less flashy than other skins on this list, Recon Expect is rare solely due to its release window. It was one of the first skins to hit the shop, before the influx of players that made Fortnite the phenomenon that it is today. While it may rotate back onto the store someday, it's a rare find. -
Renegade Raider
Similar to Recon Expert, Renegade Rider only showed up very early in Fortnite's lifespan. Unlike Recon Expert, that apocalyptic melee weapon makes her fit in a bit more with the skull soldiers and vampires we're all used to seeing. Keep a lookout to see if this Raider will ever climb out of the bunker again. -
Royale Bomber
The Royale Bomber is a PlayStation exclusive, but that's not all. You only got this sunglass toting agent if you purchased specific PlayStation hardware. A controller in the U.S. and a console bundle in the European region. It's quite a hassle to look this good. -
The Reaper
