Monster Hunter World: How to Play Online Co-Op With Friends and Form a Squad

Monster Hunter World features a robust online co-op multiplayer mode that you can use to take down monsters with friends in a squad. The new squad system is a far cry from the handheld games of the past and is more feature packed and easier to use (at least once you get the hang of it). We’ve put together a comprehensive guide on how to join or start a co-op multiplayer session in Monster Hunter World below.

How to Play Online Co-Op With Friends in Monster Hunter World in a Squad

One of the main ways that you can have another player join your game in Monster Hunter World takes a cue from Dark Souls. When you’re fighting against a herd of monsters, and the going gets too tough, you can use an SOS flare to call upon a random player to help you. Shooting a flare is easy too. All you have to do is press the options button (Start) to bring up the menu, then scroll to SOS Flare and press the select button to use it.

If you want to play with someone you know, that’s possible as well. To set up a co-op multiplayer quest online yo just need to head to your nearest quest board. You can find quest boards in the resource center (the same place your room is located). Open up the quest board interface, and you’ll see an Online Session option. This menu holds all the choices you need to play with friends online.

There are three ways to join an online multiplayer co-op quest in Monster Hunter Online.

You can use regular old matchmaking, which will pair you with any group that’s looking for a member. You can use filters to specify a particular quest you want to join. Finally, you can use a session ID code to enter a game hosted by a friend. Think of a session ID like a Nintendo friend code, but less annoying.

You can also host a session in Monster Hunter World. Once you create it, you have the option to generate a session ID which you can give to your friends so they can join your game. Once they’re in the session, you can start, and everyone who has joined can play co-op with friends for the duration of the quest.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to just have a friend join your game and hang out with yo the whole time. You’ll need to start a session for each new quest you want to play together.
