The Best Part(s) Of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Slicing and dicing. That's my favorite part of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Of course, I said a lot of bad stuff about the game in my review as well, but the important thing is that everyone seemed to have read the text.

And when they did, they hopefully found how happy I was to cut up my enemies and take their spines for fuel. Additionally, I've gotta say I love the thunder sound effect that rings out when you damage an enemy enough to chop. If that sounds worth it to you, play the game for yourself. I just don't think it lived up to the Metal Gear name and my lofty expectations in story, value, or polish.

At least I'll always have the Zandatsu….

Maybe we can think of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance as a bad movie you go see anyway, like the new Diehard movie. C'mon, you know it's terrible, but you like pieces of it anyway, right? Raiden's adventure is certainly a guilty pleasure in itself. The story goes far beyond the kind of buffonery you'd normally see in a Hideo Kojima game, and even Kamiya's wicked sense of player interaction is in force.

All of this comes to a head in the "Zandatsu" moment. You've been furiously maneuvering and pounding combos into a boss, and finally the button prompt comes. Unfortunately, I felt like I had no drive to that point. Nothing compelled me along the ride like I wanted it to. Even a rudimentary task like collecting items proved unwieldy.

Again, my review is my opinion. There's a demo of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance on your console of choice, so download it and see if you might want to buy a copy. Don't be disappointed if your opinion differs. Of course if it does, you should share it in the comments below.
