Final Fantasy XIV dev speaks on possible Monster Hunter Wilds crossover

‘Final Fantasy XIV’ developer Masaki Nakagawa has revealed Square Enix would “love” the game to cross pathes with ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’.

The lead battle content designer shared that the studio was a big fan of Capcom’s action-RPG franchise, and with ‘Wilds’ February 2025 release date fast approaching, Nakagawa has teased Square Enix would be open to having its MMO cross over with the upcoming title.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, he said: “There are many fans of the ‘Monster Hunter’ series within the ‘Final Fantasy XIV’ team, and I am one of them.

“If we were given the opportunity to do a crossover, we would love to do it, but with the release date for ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’ almost upon us, we will do our best to enjoy the game first.”

‘Final Fantasy XIV’ already has a ‘Monster Hunter: World’-themed quest – in which players get the chance to battle the formidible Rathalos – and Nakagawa said the team had some ideas on where to take that concept next.

He continued: “The game designer who handled the battle content for our crossover with ‘Monster Hunter: World’ has been really motivated even after they finished working on the crossover, saying that if there is a next time, they want to do this and that.

”So if we can do a crossover, I’m sure we could create something amazing with our overwhelming enthusiasm!”
