Minisforum UH125 Pro Review

Minisforum UH125 Pro Review

Minisforum is here with the UH125 Pro, a compact yet powerful mini PC that boasts Intel’s latest Core Ultra 5 processor. In addition to that new generation of power, the UH125 Pro comes equipped with an OCulink port for those who wish to expand the graphics power with an external GPU.

New generation of power

For the unfamiliar, Intel’s new Core Ultra 5 processor boasts 14 cores and 18 threads, which translates to serious horsepower that can handle demanding tasks like high-resolution video edits with heavy effects. But it’s not just powerful, as it can also sip energy when under low usage. It’s an impressive chip and Minisforum has harnessed the CPU’s power well inside of the UH125 Pro tiny enclosure.

Intel Arc graphics return but with an overhaul, giving graphics tasks a big power boost. This includes video games, with Intel’s latest chip supporting xeSS super sampling for upscaling games.

Impressive I/O

Minisforum UH125 Pro Review

Looking at the PC’s I/O options, it’s hard not to be impressed. Dual USB4, DisplayPort 2.0, HDMI 2.1, OCulink, SD card slot, and multiple 5 GHz Ethernet ports are the key highlights. Power users can use these ports with all kinds of interfaces and setups. For the keen user, the UH125 Pro can become a mini hub to multiple high-resolution displays, high-speed storage devices, and more.

Support for both modern and older devices makes the I/O super versatile and future-proof. It’s a great combination of ports that makes Minisforum’s take on the Core Ultra 5-powered mini PC stand out.

Gaming capable

Minisforum UH125 Pro Review

Here at GameRevolution, we unsurprisingly love to game. With the Core Ultra 5, gaming is certainly possible with the latest iteration of Intel Arc graphics. AAA games can even be played on lower settings. However, thanks to the UH125 Pro’s OCulink port, a graphics card enclosure can be used to leverage the power of a dedicated GPU. This turns a workstation beast into a gaming beast.

Upgrade challenges

Minisforum UH125 Pro Review

I don’t have many criticisms of the UH125 Pro. My only gripes have to do with the potential headaches inexperienced users could have when trying to get into the PC to upgrade storage or RAM. It’s not impossible, by any means, but it does require some care. Clumsy or unfortunate users could severely damage the product if they aren’t careful when trying to upgrade.

My other nitpick is the Copilot button. While I know “AI” is the current buzzword of the industry, the addition of a dedicated button isn’t so helpful, as Windows itself puts the Copilot function in the taskbar, remaining onscreen at all times.

Final Verdict

At $555 for the 32 GB + 1 TB SSD model (or $385 barebones), the Minisforum UH125 Pro offers a solid mix of performance and connectivity in a compact package. With Intel’s Core Ultra 5 processor, versatile I/O options, and support for external GPUs, this mini PC is well-suited for a range of tasks, from everyday productivity to light gaming and multimedia. While some may find upgrading components a bit tricky, the UH125 Pro remains a powerful and adaptable option in the mini PC market.
