Obsidian’s Avowed Has a ‘Double-Digit’ Number of Endings

Although Obsidian Entertainment is working on other projects, it’s the upcoming Avowed that’s got a lot of fantasy and role-playing game fans paying attention. Given the studio’s propensity for fantastic storytelling, it’ll interest a few to learn that the developer’s new game will have quite a lot of endings.

Avowed is meant to be played again and again

At this year’s Gamescom, IGN sat down with Carrie Patel, Game Director for Avowed, to get a few words. One of the questions that gets asked pretty early on in the interview is how many different endings the game is likely to have.

Patel admits that it’s a difficult one to answer but is able to say that the number of “endings slides number in the double digits,” adding that players can end up with combinations of different ones. Given this response, it can be assumed that Avowed will have at least ten endings. However, there’s no definite number being touted currently.

While Obsidian has flitted between genres over the years, specializing in sequels early on, one thing remains consistent when it comes to the studio’s games: exemplary role-playing experiences.

A notable example of this is Fallout: New Vegas, which was released in 2010 and has gone down as one of the best games in the Fallout series. In fact, it’s sometimes listed as one of the best RPGs in recent memory, praised for its story and writing.

Avowed will be much more fantasy-based, and will actually take place on Eora, the same world Pillars of Eternity is set. However, Patel says in the video that players won’t need to have played Pillars in order to enjoy this game, but long-time fans will notice some callbacks and references.

Currently, Avowed is scheduled to release on February 18, 2025, and will be available on PC, as well as being an Xbox Series X|S exclusive. There’s no word yet on when – if at all – the game will come to PS5.
