Cities Skylines 2 Not Enough Customers: How to Fix Customer Shortage

If you’re getting “not enough customers” warnings in Cities Skylines 2, you’ve made a mistake in your zoning. If you’re a new player, it’s not your fault. The game doesn’t do a great job explaining how zoning and demand works. So, it’s easy to end up with more than you need. Fortunately, the fix for this is quick and easy.

What do I do if there aren’t enough customers for my commercial zones in Cities Skylines 2?

If you’re getting the warning that there are not enough customers in Cities Skylines 2, it’s likely because you zoned too much commercial property. It can take a while before this mistake catches up with you, but when it does, your commercial area will suddenly become angry with icons stating there are not enough people buying stuff.

There are a couple of ways you can handle the not enough customers issue:

  • Let it run its course
  • Dezone some of your commercial properties

Let it run its course

If only a few businesses are warning that they don’t have enough customers, you can typically just leave things alone. Don’t zone anymore commercial space and wait for more people to move into your city. This will create more commercial demand, balancing your current customer deficit.

Dezone some of your commercial properties

Unfortunately, if the situation is particularly drastic, businesses will start to close, which will have an overall detrimental effect on your city. To avoid this, you can dezone and bulldoze a few businesses to condense customer activity.

Once you determine which method works for you, it’s time to learn what to do with the demand gauge. You’re not meant to fulfill demands completely. You should always leave them at around 10-20% minimum. Doing so keeps messages about insufficient workers or customers from popping up and ensures that buildings don’t sit empty waiting for a tenant to move into them.
