Super Mario Wonder Playable Characters Tier List

Super Mario Wonder Playable Character Tier List

There are 12 playable characters in Super Mario Wonder, giving it one of the largest casts you can control of any Mario title. Of course, everyone will have their favorites, but which ones are functionally better? We’ll place the whole crew into our Super Mario Wonder playable character tier list so you’ll know which ones are the best.

Which Super Mario Wonder playable characters are the best?

There are only three groups of playable characters in Super Mario Wonder:

  • Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, Toadette
  • Yoshi, Red Yoshi, Yellow Yoshi, Light-Blue Yoshi
  • Nabbit

Each of the characters in a group controls the same and has the same abilities. The first group plays just like you’d expect them to and has the same capabilities and limitations we’ve seen in past Mario games. The Yoshis can’t use power-ups but can eat enemies, spit out items, and flutter jump. Nabbit can’t use power-ups but can turn them into coins and otherwise control like a character from the first group.

The big catch here is that the Yoshis and Nabbit are invulnerable to damage. So, if you want to experience Super Mario Wonder to its fullest, you’re really limited to the six characters from the first group.

Super Mario Wonder playable character tier list

So, since there’s not a ton to differentiate the Super Mario Wonder playable characters, our tier list is going to be completely subjective:

S Tier

Super Mario Wonder Playable. Character Tier List S Tier
  • Mario
  • Peach

These two are the MCs of the Mario universe. Pretty much everything that happens revolves around one or both of them.

A Tier

Super Mario Wonder Playable. Character Tier List A Tier
  • Daisy
  • Luigi
  • Toadette

Luigi and Daisy are the humble but just as capable counterparts to Mario and Peach. Luigi has been around almost as long as Mario, but Daisy is just starting to come into her own. She was introduced in Super Mario Land and has only appeared in spin-offs like Mario Kart and sports titles. In fact, despite her popularity, this is her first main series Mario title. Toadette is a relative newcomer to the Mario universe, but she’s made quite an impact and has become a regular.

B Tier

Super Mario Wonder Playable. Character Tier List B Tier
  • Yoshi

It hurts to rank Yoshi this low, but being unable to use power-ups is a big strike against him. If he had been a regular member of the crew, he’d definitely be in S Tier.

C Tier

Super Mario Wonder Playable. Character Tier List C Tier
  • Blue Toad
  • Yellow Toad

These guys are okay and have the advantage of being full-playable characters. However, their presence only makes us notice the absence of regular Toad. They’re a pale substitute for the red-capped legend; we can’t forgive that.

D Tier

Super Mario Wonder Playable. Character Tier List D Tier
  • Light-Blue Yoshi
  • Red Yoshi
  • Yellow Yoshi

These three just can’t compare to the OG. They’re really C Tier, but I needed someone to be a D so the next character would drop to an F.

F Tier

Super Mario Wonder Playable. Character Tier List F Tier
  • Nabbit

Nabbit is insufferable. He’s too scared to show his face and is basically the worst character in the Mario universe. He’s also the least fun to play as in Super Mario Wonder.

Character tiers are a source of contention in games, and Super Mario Wonder is no exception. Tiers are frequently aligned with character attributes, but nostalgia also plays a role. Fans may gravitate toward childhood favorites like Mario or Peach, but newcomers add their own unique appeal. Unfortunately, certain personalities shine brighter here due to the constraints of the game. Personal attachment, however, might eclipse functionality for some fans. While this list serves as a guide, the fun of the game comes from getting to know each character. After all, in Mario’s lively universe, sometimes the journey is more important than the tier rankings.
