Steam Remote Play Now Supports Streaming in 4K

Valve recently released a small update to the Steam Client Beta. It introduces a handful of quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. However, its most notable inclusion is that Steam Remote Play now supports 4K streaming.

Steam Client Beta adds 4K remote streaming

Steam Remote Play adds native 4K support

Steam Remote Play allows users to launch a game on one computer, then stream it directly to another device. Remote Play Together also enables users to join a local multiplayer game remotely without the other player needing to launch the game. However, it did not support 4K by default. Players could get around this by adjusting the settings, but doing so was finicky and unreliable. Fortunately, the latest Client Beta finally gives Remote Play native 4K support. Naturally, users will need a 4K monitor to benefit from this, but it’s something that many PC gamers were asking for.

Users will need to opt-in to the Steam Client Beta to take advantage of this new feature. They can do so by clicking “Steam” in the top left corner of the Steam Client window, then choose “Settings” from the dropdown menu. After that, they need to select “Interface” and look for the heading “Client Beta Participation.”

This Steam Client Beta update also adds support for the Indonesian language. Other changes include users now being able to resize the settings window. Valve additionally fixed a series of issues with Big Picture mode. These include problems with overlays, notifications, and the client switching from full screen to windowed mode when the user dismisses a video. Valve also fixed an issue with Steam not re-creating folders when verifying an installation. Finally, users should notice that the client’s back button is more reliable.

PC gamers can check out the full patch notes on the Steam Client News Hub. It’s a minor update, and most of its contents aren’t too exciting. However, adding full 4K support to Remote Play is a big deal for some PC gamers.
