The Starfield Switch release date would be quite helpful for those who want to chip away at Bethesda Game Studios’ upcoming space-faring RPG on the go. This is the studio’s first new IP in quite some time, after all, and there’s quite a lot of hype around it. Many are wondering if the game is coming out on Switch, so here’s everything we know.
Is Starfield coming out on Switch?
Starfield hasn’t been confirmed for a Switch release.
With Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media, and therefore developer Bethesda Game Studios and publisher Bethesda Softworks, putting this RPG on anything that isn’t an Xbox or PC is a bit of a stretch.
Xbox did publish Ori and the Blind Forest on the Switch, and iam8bit published its sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, on the platform. However, those are smaller titles and didn’t seem to set much of a precedent.
There’s also the question of power. Starfield has only been announced for Xbox Series X|S and PC, which puts its minimum specs far above those of the Nintendo Switch. There are titles like Control, Hitman, Thymesia, The Medium, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, just to name a few, that run on the Switch through the cloud, but even a cloud version currently seems unlikely.
Bethesda is no stranger to the Switch, though, as Skyrim, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, Fallout Shelter, Quake, Quake 2, and every major Doom game are all on the platform. Some of those ports even came to Switch well after the acquisition. The differences in scope and relative power seem to make Starfield a unique case, though.
Is there a Starfield Switch release date?
There is no Starfield Switch release date. As previously stated, Microsoft’s purchase of Bethesda and the power gap between Xbox Series X|S and Switch will likely keep Starfield off the Nintendo platform for the foreseeable future. A lot can change, though, especially with the likelihood of a Switch successor coming in the future.
