Diablo 4 character select screen stuck won't load bug fix

Diablo 4 Character Select Screen Stuck and Won’t Load Fix

There’s a bug where the Diablo 4 character select screen won’t load. The game will start as usual, but it gets stuck when it gets to the screen to choose your character. Unfortunately, no matter how long you wait, the game will remain frozen until you quit out of it. Fortunately, there is a fix, but it’s not permanent.

How to fix Diablo 4 stuck on character select screen bug

Sometimes when logging into Diablo 4, the game will get stuck loading the character select screen. You won’t get any error screen, and it’ll sit there indefinitely. Unfortunately, there’s no option to exit the game or try to log in again, so you’ll be forced to close Diablo 4.

The only fix for getting stuck on the character select screen at this time is to quit the game and try loading again. This bug may occur multiple times, but eventually, you’ll be able to get into the game.

As stated above, there’s no error message, so this issue has no definitive cause. However, the client is likely timing out when attempting to load your character info. Typically, if this happened, you’d either get an error message, or it would automatically try to send the request again. However, for some reason, that’s not happening here.

Fortunately, this bug doesn’t necessarily mean there are server issues. When it happened to us in the past, we had to close and reopen the game 2-3 times max before the problem passed, and we were able to select a character and play the game normally.

To wrap up, even though the character select screen bug in Diablo 4 can temporarily disrupt your gaming session, it’s not insurmountable. As we’ve found, the consistent remedy is simply restarting the game a couple of times. While this might be slightly irritating, it’s a minor obstacle on the road to the immersive Diablo 4 experience that awaits you once past this hurdle. Therefore, we encourage you to persist through this glitch – your patience will likely be rewarded with smooth, uninterrupted gameplay.
