Twitch’s Atrioc Returns After Deepfake Drama, Donates $60,000 to Fight Deepfakes

Atrioc has provided an update to his viewers in his Twitch return, claiming that he has donated $60,000 to the law firm supporting QTCinderella and other female streamers in their bid to rid the internet of NSFW deepfakes using their likeness. It comes after the controversy Atrioc was at the center of, after being caught looking at deepfakes of female streamers including QT and Pokimane six weeks before.

Fighting against stream lag, Atrioc explained how he had been approached by a “leading researcher” and viewer of his channel, called Genevieve Oh. She sent him a 25-page document which revealed the true scale of the deepfake problem online, and offered him her help in ensuring the content was blocked and taken down moving forward.

Atrioc funding law firm working with QTCinderella after deepfake controversy

Atrioc’s $60,000 donation in the fight against online deepfakes was supposedly given to the law firm Morrison Rothman, who are working with QTCinderella and other female streamers. He said it was “for any woman on Twitch who wanted to use their legal services for DMCA takedowns or reputation management.”

He was later introduced to the creator of a company called Ceartas, which helps influencers tackle deepfakes. Their issue is the lack of content creators who were willing to help them in improving their algorithm, and so he is hoping to raise awareness for the company so that it can continue in its pursuit of shutting down deepfake sites. So far, streamers such as Amouranth and Maya Higa are said to have helped shape the algorithm, resulting in the removal of countless websites already.

Atrioc signed off by telling his audience not to expect a return to regular streaming, instead promising that his focus would remain on the deepfake controversy, and helping female streamers in their online removal.
