Super Smash Bros. for 3DS Online Play Requires Day One Patch

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS launches today, but before you can hop into the action online, you'll have to download a day one patch. Welcome to the future, Nintendo gamers.

If you don't have the update installed, you won't be able to compete against other players online; it's as simple as that. As such, Nintendo suggests you get to downloading right away so you don't miss out on all the friend-filled online fun!

"As of October 2, 2014, new update data for Super Smash Bros. has been made available for download in the Nintendo eShop," Nintendo's support site explains. "Users will be required to download this update prior to using the software's online multiplayer features. Because of this, we strongly recommend that all Super Smash Bros. players download and install this update data."

Are you currently twiddling your thumbs in eager anticipation for your game to finish updating? If so, I suggest you read our review of Smash Bros. for 3DS to help pass the time.
