In a surprise announcement, Valve has revealed a substantial Team Fortress 2 update that’s planned to release in Summer 2023. Revealed in a blog post, the developer promises that, instead of regular summer events that have only had a few item updates in recent years, this year’s will be “a full-on update-sized update.”
Valve asking Steam Workshop creators for help with update
As for what Valve will include in this presumably large update, it will contain “items, maps, taunts, unusual effects, war paints, and who knows what else” in a post on the official Team Fortress 2 blog.
It’s unclear what the theme for this summer event will be, but the developer specifically requests Steam Workshop creators to help them out. Any submissions to the Steam Workshop for the game made before May 1, 2023 will be considered for inclusion in the update.
In 2022, Valve finally provided several updates to Team Fortress 2 that removed a large number of bots that have been plaguing the game by kicking legit players out. A December patch also included five new maps selected from the wide array of Steam Workshop submissions. So this summer update is looking very much similar to that.
Despite launching in 2007, Team Fortress 2 remains one of the most popular games on Steam. In fact, at the time of this writing, there’s roughly 100,000 players currently in the game according to SteamDB, placing it well within the Top 10 most played games on Steam.
