Pokimane has broken her silence after fellow Twitch streamer Atrioc was caught looking at NSFW deepfakes. She took to Twitter to give her response to the drama, which has ignited a discussion online about consent, and the treatment of women in the public eye. Atrioc issued an apology live on Twitch, alongside his wife.
The website Atrioc visited including deepfakes of Pokimane, as well as influencer Maya Higa. His friend QTCinderella was also featured on the site, though didn’t appear in the preview shown on Atrioc’s stream. She issued her own statement in a livestream, that was later laughed at by podcaster h3h3, before he swiftly apologized.
Pokimane responds to NSFW deepfakes on Twitter
Pokimane has asked for a basic level of respect, in her first comments since news broke of Atrioc’s viewing of NSFW deepfakes. “Stop sexualizing people without their consent,” she wrote on Twitter, signing off with the simple “that’s it, that’s the tweet.” Her message came after Maya Higa, also a target of the adult deepfake website, said that yesterday (January 30, 2023) was a “hard day.”
In its first 30 minutes, the message was “liked” on Twitter by over 22,000 people. “So simple yet so hard for the creepy people,” said one fan in response. Another added that they didn’t know “why that’s such a difficult thing for people to grasp.”
What is currently unclear, is whether or not Pokimane will be taking legal action against the creator of the NSFW deepfakes. QTCinderella promised that she would be founding a lawsuit against the site owner, which h3h3, real name Ethan Klein, said he would like to donate funds to, after apologizing for his own mishandling of the situation.
