Nintendo Cutting 3DS Price To $169.99

Nintendo has announced today that the Nintendo 3DS price, currently at $249.99, will be reduced to $169.99 starting on August 12th. That's almost an entire third off the launch pricing, which is unprecedented this early on in any system's lifecycle.

Slow sales, overall lack of interest, and pressure from third-party partners were likely behind Nintendo's sudden change in value-to-price estimates. However, Nintendo says it was to "create momentum for Nintendo 3DS and accelerate its market penetration toward the year-end sales season, when the lineup for the applicable software shall be enriched".

I can't say I didn't see this coming. The 3DS hasn't been the hit that Nintendo had expected. And with the PlayStation Vita priced at $249.99, it flushed the value the 3DS offered down the toilet.

Is the new $169.99 price point low enough to get you to bite? Or are you still waiting for some games that aren't just Nintendo 64 ports?

And for you early adopters like myself, how are you feeling knowing you just bought one for $250, when if you had only waited, you could have saved yourself $80?

Sound off in the comments below. I'm expecting a lot of chatter on this one.
