The Forces of Darkness Come Together at Abbey Road for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2’s Soundtrack

With music defining Castlevania throughout the ages, from the 8-bit days all the way through to the first Lords of Shadow’s fantastic music box sequence, it’s no wonder why the soundtrack for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 plays such big part in the experience.

Composer Oscar Araujo has worked with Mercury Steam in the past and returns from the first game, so fans who’ve stuck with Gabriel should recognize the style and sound. Konami focused on big orchestras to give the game a blockbuster film feel, and just watching this video you can see how much effort has gone into the music alone.

Watch the full clip above to hear Oscar’s thoughts on the difference between composing for a movie and composing for a video game. Oscar had three years of production time to work on the music and style that would bring Lords of Shadow 2 to life, but it’s good to see that Konami sought out someone who had a passion for video game scoring. Oscar says that the experience is more gratifying than working on films, but certainly recording at Abbey Road didn’t hurt.

Konami has also previously detailed the game’s expansive world and familiar cast. We got a chance to go hands-on with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 a few weeks back. You can read our full preview here. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be out on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC February 25th, 2014.
