Resident Evil 7 How To Complete the Birthday Cake Puzzle and Survive

The birthday cake puzzle is Resident Evil 7's most challenging puzzle. It stumps even the brightest players, and is commonly a source of frustration.





Below we will go over how you can solve this puzzle with the least effort possible.





First, note that you will need to complete the birthday cake puzzle twice. The first time you complete it you are required to go through all the steps. The second time you can skip most of the steps, which we will outline below.


 



First Puzzle Completion

• Take the Candle from the clown.
• Enter the room with the birthday cake and pull the Winder Key from the keg.
• Head to the toilet near the clown and pull the Dirty Telescope out.
• Pull out the Dirty Telescope and enter the room with the birthday cake. The water at the entrance should clean the lens.
• Use the Dirty Telescope while looking at the nine screens in the far room. You will see three symbols.
• Enter the birthday cake room and enter the three symbols you saw on the screens.
• Head to the kitchen and use the Straw Doll on the stove to acquire a Dummy Finger.
• Light the Candle on the stove.
• Use the lit Candle on the rope attached to the door handle near the nine screens.
• Retrieve a Balloon near the cabinet in the room on the other side of the door.
• Use the Balloon on the pipe near the stove. You will receive a Quill Pen.
• Use the Winder Key, Dummy Finger, and Quill Pen on the clown to receive the code 'LOSER'.
• Enter the balloon room and enter 'LOSER' on the door padlock to open the door.
• Retrieve the Valve Handle from the room.
• Use the Valve Handle on the pipe next to the birthday cake.
• Return to the kitchen and light your Candle on the stove.
• Use the Candle on the birthday cake to complete the puzzle.

You will now exit the "tape sequence" and return to the world.



Second Puzzle Completion



Roughly 30 minutes to an hour later you will need to complete the birthday cake puzzle again. This time around you have to avoid burning to death, which means not being able to interact with the oil-filled keg. Without a Winder Key, you will simply need to skip all steps related to the clown. Thankfully, you already know what to do after completing the above.

• Grab the Candle from the clown.
• Enter the birthday cake room.
• Go to the kitchen stove and light your Candle.
• Burn the rope attached to the door near the screens.
• Enter 'LOSER' on the padlock attached to the door.
• Retrieve the Valve Handle.
• Use the Valve Handle on the pipe near the birthday cake.
• Go to the stove and relight your Candle.
• Place the Candle on your birthday cake.
