The laughs came thick and fast in She-Hulk episode 3, which featured a cameo appearance from none other than Megan Thee Stallion. While the B-Plot which included the rapper’s involvement kept us entertained, alongside the pushing forward of the main narrative, there was one moment in the episode that had our eyebrows raised. Just who are The Wrecking Crew that attacked Jen as she returned home, and what did they want with She-Hulk?
Why was Jen attacked by The Wrecking Crew in She-Hulk episode 3?
At first, it appeared as though the gang who assaulted Jen were doing it just for clout. Using what were described as stolen Asgardian construction tools, they berated the attorney for ‘flaunting’ her powers. Caught up in the media storm surrounding She-Hulk, they wanted nothing more than to take her down. Fortunately, Jen’s ability to change into Hulk-form at will meant that she was easily able to defeat the men.
When one of the group members was named as Thunderball, Marvel Comics fans recognized him as one-fourth of the supervillain clan, The Wrecking Crew. We can assume that the other three men involved were the Wrecker, Bulldozer, and Piledriver. Whether or not they possess powers at this point in their criminal career wasn’t clear, but their involvement in the series at this early stage may mean that this is the direction they are headed.
Before The Wrecking Crew fled with their tails between their legs, one of them pulled out a needle and attempted to stab it into Jen’s skin. The toughness that comes with being She-Hulk meant that the needle simply bent, rather than piercing our titular hero. As they returned to their vehicle, the group complained about how they had been unsuccessful in gaining the DNA. It was the first nod towards a serious plot against She-Hulk that we’ve seen in the show.
Who are The Wrecking Crew working for in She-Hulk?
Though they can be pretty deadly on their own based on their source material, we discovered that The Wrecking Crew is working on behalf of a more powerful figure in this series. Referring only to the shady villain as ‘the boss’, whoever sent them out for a sample of She-Hulk’s blood could be someone who wants to turn into a Hulk themselves. They could also be hoping to study Jen’s blood now that she is a Hulk, so they can discover her weaknesses and gain the upper hand when it comes to future attempts to defeat her. Then there’s perhaps the most terrifying assumption, that they want to replicate the DNA found in Jen’s blood so they can inject it into an army of soldiers, turning them into a legion of Hulks for potential world domination. Of course, it could be for an entirely different reason altogether.
Exactly who this ‘boss’ is, remains to be seen. Titania is behind bars after her attempt at fame went wrong, but that hasn’t stopped villains in the past from having others do their dirty work for them. Having been defeated by She-Hulk, and being very much into the world of social media, she will likely be looking for a big comeback allowing the spotlight to shine on her once more. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more clues as to who is leading The Wrecking Crew in the coming weeks.
