Like every other game by developer FromSoftware, Elden Ring is a game that is naturally very difficult. The studio has garnered a reputation for creating tough-as-nails games such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne. But while Elden Ring is certainly not an easy game to play, some players obviously want to punish themselves a bit more and fortunately for them, there is the Ascended Mod. Here we will look at whether console users on the PS5 and Xbox Series X can get access to the Ascended Mod.
Is The Elden Ring Ascended Mod coming to PS5, PS4, and Xbox?
Modding on consoles is not something that has been traditionally supported by many developers. While there are a few exceptions, like with Bethesda’s Fallout and Elder Scrolls series, console players are usually only able to try out mods that are available on PC. This is an inherent problem with the closed ecosystems that the likes of Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony use for their platforms. That makes it incredibly unlikely that the Ascended Mod will ever make it to PlayStation or Xbox consoles.
Usually, the only way for a PC mod like the Ascended Mod is able to come to a console is if the developer officially supports it and adds it to the game via an update or as downloadable content. However, this route also seems unlikely given FromSoftware’s history with the modding community. Despite the fact that many of the studio’s games have strong modding communities, it has never officially supported or even condoned the use of mods in its games.
How to download and install the Ascended Mod and what it changes
The Ascended Mod is currently available in beta via Nexus Mods. To install it, users must do the following:
- Download Anti-cheat toggler and offline launcher mod and install it on their PC.
- Turn on offline mode and make a new character save file in the game.
- Copy the copy of the ModEngine file to the ModEngine folder in the Elden Ring game directory.
- Transfer over the Regulation file included in the mod download.
- Double-click “launchmod_eldenring.bat” will start the mod.
In terms of changes, the Ascended Mod makes Elden Ring a more challenging experience. One of the biggest alterations comes in the way that the mod switches the enemy physics and AI, making them more unpredictable and difficult to tackle. Additionally, the mod adds a variety of new weapons, talismans, and armor effects, providing extra content for players to find as they explore the world.
